Overview

David Silver is a leading AI researcher and former Google DeepMind scientist, best known for his work on the AlphaGo, AlphaZero, and AlphaFold systems. He is now the CEO and founder of Ineffable Intelligence.

Notable Achievements

AlphaGo (2016)

Led the team that created AlphaGo, the first AI to defeat a professional human player at the game of Go - considered a landmark achievement in AI history due to Go’s complexity.

AlphaZero (2017)

Developed AlphaZero, which achieved superhuman performance in chess, shogi, and Go through self-play alone, without any human game data.

AlphaFold (2020-2022)

Contributed to AlphaFold, the AI system that revolutionized protein structure prediction, solving a 50-year-old grand challenge in biology.

Current Work

In April 2026, Silver launched Ineffable Intelligence with $1.1 billion in seed funding to develop a “superlearner” AI system using reinforcement learning and self-experience.

Philosophy

Silver argues that current large language models are fundamentally limited by their dependence on pre-existing human-generated data. His new approach targets superintelligence through autonomous discovery via reinforcement learning.

Philanthropy

Silver has committed to donating all personal proceeds from Ineffable Intelligence to high-impact charities.
