DOJ announced October 13, 2026 that Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, Saudi national and OpenAI engineer (since July 2025), was arrested October 9 on charges of intercepting oral communications. OpenAI found a USB audio device concealed in toilet paper plugged into a conference-room TV USB port (~Sept 28 install; discovered Sept 30). OpenAI fired Alfozan and referred matter to FBI. Complaint alleges encrypted contents and Oct 5 visit where Alfozan looked behind the TV; FBI framed case as protecting U.S. superintelligence innovation. Allegations only; defendant entitled to presumption of innocence.
