ANZ completed one of the world’s first live corporate treasury transactions using tokenised deposits and Swift’s ledger, demonstrating potential for cross-border payment evolution.
ANZ is the first Australian bank to use Swift’s blockchain ledger. Transaction brought together ANZ, BHP, Swift, and Citi for USD payments between Melbourne and New York.
BHP used existing ANZ account and banking channel; tokenised deposits and ledger operated behind the scenes. Demonstrated faster seven-days-a-week processing potential and Swift ledger as secure connector enabling tokenised deposits from different institutions to interoperate.
Swift Head of Oceania Suresh Rajalingam: interoperability core to ledger development; supports faster, transparent, always-on cross-border payments building on Swift’s existing trust and resilience.
