At a Google Cloud event on October 8, 2026, Google announced agentic capabilities for Gemini: a unified agent that answers questions and completes tasks from one interface.
CEO Sundar Pichai said Gemini has over 1 billion monthly active users and nearly 90% of Fortune 100 businesses use Gemini Enterprise. Google will launch the agent for businesses first, then consumers, to address security, scale, and performance.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the agent can be given “objectives, not just instructions,” planning work, using custom skills and tools, and connecting to internal systems. It auto-selects models or lets users choose, including Anthropic Claude models initially, with open source and private models planned.
Integrations include Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, Snowflake, and MCP servers.
A tasks inbox shows thinking, subagent delegation, skills, code, and progress. The agent gets its own Workspace account—email, context, team awareness, calendars, approvals—and can be tagged, emailed, or added to chats, with audit trails attributed to the agent.
Access from mobile, desktop, CLI, Workspace, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow, and Slack. Early testers included On, Shopify, and PayPal.
Google announced flexible spending: multi-model orchestration, smart routing, and real-time spend caps for enterprise AI costs.
