October 7, 2026 — Claude Haiku 5.5: the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model Anthropic has released.
Claude Haiku 5.5 is designed for high-volume, cost-sensitive tasks (summaries, compactions, database queries, classification). It pairs with Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 as a subagent on coding work and targets speed-sensitive tasks like live customer support and browser use.
Haiku 5.5 is available at a much lower price than Haiku 4.5 — on average around 75% less to run.
Anthropic is halving the price of Claude Sonnet 5.5 cache reads (0.20), reducing Sonnet 5.5 cost on most agentic work by ~20%. New monthly API credits roll out for Max and Team subscribers (500 pooled).
Pricing per 1M tokens (Haiku 5.5, prompts up to / over 100k): cache reads 0.05; cache writes 0.625; input 0.50; output 2.50.
Benchmark highlights vs Haiku 4.5: GDPval-AA v2.1 1620 vs 735; OSWorld 2.1 72.4% vs 15.7%; Terminal-Bench 4.0 39.2% vs 0.0%; Humanity’s Last Exam 45.9% no tools vs 10.2%.
First Haiku-class model with adjustable effort setting. Safety: improved alignment vs Haiku 4.5; cybersecurity safeguards more restrictive than 4.5 but permit wider defensive tasks than Sonnet 5.5; biology safeguards match Sonnet 5/5.5/Opus 5.
Available on AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure; API id claude-haiku-5-5. Python/TypeScript SDKs add computer use and browser use in beta.
