NPR report (October 4, 2026): President Trump named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as White House AI czar, chairing the new “Super Intelligence Force.”

Trump prefers “super intelligence” over “artificial intelligence.” The task force will “coordinate the Federal Government’s engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies.”

Named members:

  • Jay Clayton (DNI, chair)
  • Andrew Ferguson (FTC Chairman)
  • Scott Kupor (OPM Director)
  • Emil Michael (Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering / Pentagon CTO)

Announcement follows September 29 White House voluntary accord where major AI companies committed to self-policing development. Trump signed executive order renaming AI as “super intelligence.”

Clayton background: former SEC chair, former U.S. Attorney for Southern District of New York. Replaces David Sacks whose special government employee term expired.

Task force reports to Trump and chief of staff Susie Wiles.
