postmarketOS, the mobile Linux distribution based on Alpine Linux, is changing its name to Nura after an 18-month selection process announced at the project’s September 27 conference.

The team cited pronunciation difficulties, inconsistent capitalization, and the descriptive limitations of “postmarketOS” as reasons for the change. More than 300 community suggestions were narrowed to four finalists; Nura received the highest score. The name derives from Sardinian Nuraghe structures, symbolizing durability.

A trademark application has been filed. The project moved to nura.eco after nura.org was unavailable. The familiar arrow logo remains with minor spacing refinements. postmarketOS references will persist in code and documentation during the transition.
