The mobile Linux operating system postmarketOS has officially changed its name to Nura, ending a naming process that lasted roughly a year and a half.
The project announced the new name during its conference on September 27, 2026. More than 300 names were submitted before a selection team narrowed them to four finalists checked for problematic meanings across languages. Nura received the highest internal vote.
The new home is nura.eco; the team initially sought nura.org but could not purchase it at a reasonable price. The .eco TLD aligns with the project’s focus on extending hardware useful life. For end users, the mission remains unchanged: a Linux-based OS keeping smartphones useful after vendor support ends.
