Anthropic has set up a wet lab in the San Francisco Bay Area for physical biology experiments, confirmed by head of life sciences Eric Kauderer-Abrams: “We believe that to do biology, the final test is still, and will be for a while, in real lab work. We absolutely are doing that today.”
Anthropic conducts some research in-house and works with external partners. It is not focused on drug discovery specifically — avoiding competition with pharma customers such as Novo Nordisk. Lab size, staffing, and biosafety level undisclosed. Follows April acquisition of Coefficient Bio (~$400M stock deal).
