WASHINGTON, Sept 17 (Reuters) — OpenAI released Astra for Law, a legal industry-focused configuration of GPT-6 Astra designed to help law firms and legal software providers conduct research, draft advice, and build custom applications.

Astra for Law combines GPT-6 Astra with a Legal Search Index spanning U.S. case law, statutes, regulations, and other legal materials across 230M+ URLs, plus specialized instructions for legal analysis and writing.

On Vals AI’s Legal Research Bench, Astra for Law scored 54.0% correctness vs 38.7% for GPT-6 Astra with web search alone at highest reasoning effort.

Legal AI vendors Harvey and Legora are API partners. Sullivan & Cromwell, Ropes & Gray, and Cooley are early adopters. Trusted Access Program offers zero data retention (ZDR) and excludes Enterprise usage from human review by default.

API access via gpt-6-astra-law is coming soon with no public pricing date.
