The DeepMind Institute launched Wednesday as a public forum for Google, DeepMind, and outside researchers to tackle AGI’s societal impacts. Shane Legg serves as Managing Editor alongside Google SVP James Manyika and DeepMind Chair Demis Hassabis.
The inaugural publications explore economic policy for AGI, model reasoning transparency, global access, and human flourishing. The directors note Google, DeepMind, and the broader research community “will not always agree, and they will likely change their minds.”
Legg said AI is driving international scientific advances and that broad intellectual debate is required to address AGI challenges and opportunities.
