Google is transitioning Gemini Notebook to a new usage system similar to its Gemini app. The rollout begins September 2, 2026.
How the New System Works
Rather than offering a fixed number of daily feature generations, the updated model considers:

Limits reset every five hours instead of the previous 24-hour reset cycle.

Users will receive clear notifications about their usage status:
- “You’re almost at your AI usage limit. Limit resets at 3:00 PM.”
- “Limit reached. All features are available after 3:00 PM.”
Key Features
The interface includes a visual indicator showing expected computational costs for Studio generations. Google also offers a “Generate later” option allowing users to defer resource-intensive outputs like Video Overviews or Slide Decks, which will complete automatically once limits refresh.
The updated system helps users manage their usage more intelligently by showing the relative computational cost of different operations before they commit resources.
Subscription Tier Differences
Usage allowances vary by subscription level:
- Free accounts receive standard limits
- Google AI Plus provides 2x higher access
- Google AI Pro offers 4x increases
- Google AI Ultra grants 5x to 20x higher limits depending on subscription type
