Mollie Completes Acquisition of GoCardless

Mollie, Amsterdam-founded fintech payments and financial services provider, has completed its acquisition of GoCardless on September 1, 2026. The deal was first agreed in December 2025.

Deal Structure

The transaction was valued at approximately €1.05–1.1 billion, with more than 90 percent of the consideration paid in shares and the remainder in cash.

Combined Business Scope

Together, the two companies are trusted by more than 350,000 businesses across 30+ markets, positioning the combined entity as Europe’s leading payments and financial services partner.

The combined offering includes:

  • Unified payment solutions combining Mollie’s card processing and local payment methods with GoCardless’s Direct Debit and open banking (Pay by Bank) across 38 countries
  • Business accounts and money management services
  • Business financing through Mollie Capital
  • Embedded solutions for SaaS platforms

Strategic Rationale

According to Koen Köppen, CEO of Mollie: “Two complementary businesses, the same DNA, and a shared mission to make money management effortless.” The acquisition allows businesses to consolidate fragmented financial operations into a single platform rather than juggling multiple providers.

Leadership Structure

Koen Köppen continues as CEO of Mollie. GoCardless will operate as “GoCardless, a Mollie company” under co-founder Hiroki Takeuchi.

Financial Health

Both companies entered from positions of strength:

  • Mollie achieved EBITDA profitability in 2024 with €147 million in net revenue in 2025
  • GoCardless recorded its first EBITDA-positive quarter in summer 2025

Market Position

The combined entity strengthens its position in European payments, offering comprehensive solutions for businesses managing card payments, direct debits, and open banking across multiple markets.
