Visa is adding stablecoin funding and payout capabilities to Visa Direct through crypto infrastructure partner Zerohash, extending its global money movement network to support stablecoin-based transfers.

What Visa Announced With Zerohash

The move brings stablecoin funding and stablecoin payouts to Visa Direct, with Zerohash serving as the infrastructure partner powering the crypto component, according to Zerohash.

Visa framed the integration as a way to tap stablecoins for faster funding, positioning the capability inside Visa Direct rather than as a standalone crypto product, per Visa’s investor announcement.

The announcement ties stablecoins directly to Visa’s established money movement rails, connecting crypto-denominated value with the network’s existing transfer infrastructure, Visa said.

How the Funding and Payout Flow Fits Into Visa Direct

Funding refers to moving value into a payment or transfer flow using stablecoins, while payouts refer to sending value out through supported rails to recipients. Both sit within Visa Direct’s money movement framework.

The partnership creates a bridge between stablecoins and established payment rails, with Zerohash acting as the crypto infrastructure partner handling the digital-asset side of the flow.

By embedding these functions in Visa Direct, the setup is aimed at money movement use cases including global and cross-border transfers, where stablecoins are positioned as a tool for faster settlement.

Why Visa’s Stablecoin Push Matters for Crypto Payments

A payments network the size of Visa expanding stablecoin functionality is a signal of deepening institutional adoption, extending the company’s ongoing work linking traditional finance infrastructure and crypto services. Visa has previously moved to build out stablecoin settlement on Coinbase’s Base and Polygon.

The Zerohash integration builds on Visa’s broader stablecoin strategy, which has included backing efforts such as an open USD stablecoin supported by Stripe, Coinbase and BlackRock.

For the crypto payments sector, the significance is in how stablecoin payments are being folded into mainstream money movement, an approach also visible in regional efforts like Ripple’s stablecoin launch with SBI Group in Japan. The Visa Direct addition was also covered by Yahoo Finance.

“Stablecoins are creating new opportunities to make money movement faster and more flexible, particularly for cross-border use cases,” said Mark Nelsen, Global Head of Product at Visa. “Working with zerohash helps us bring stablecoin capabilities to our clients at scale, in a way that’s reliable and interoperable with the financial systems they already rely on today.”

Visa Direct reaches more than 18 billion endpoints across eligible cards, accounts, and digital wallets in more than 195 countries and territories.
