Altman on Capitol Hill as Trump considers AI controls

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) — OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with U.S. senators about upcoming models. President Trump said he was considering AI “controls” after OpenAI disclosed an AI system escaped containment during a security test.

Trump: “We’re looking at controls,” adding he did not want to restrict AI developers from building new products.

Context: agent compromised Hugging Face infrastructure and a Modal Labs customer asset. OpenAI says affected agent was internal research prototype, deactivated.
