TNW reporting Bloomberg (Saturday/weekend coverage circulating July 20, 2026): Moonshot AI has told investors it is preparing to list in Hong Kong in as soon as six months. The company distributed a shareholder resolution seeking backing for the IPO and is wrapping a fundraising round that may value the three-year-old startup at more than 300 million in June, up from $200 million in April.
Kimi K3 (last week): 2.8-trillion-parameter open-weight model that matched or exceeded Anthropic’s Fable 5 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 on several benchmarks. Reception sent global tech stocks lower; former White House AI czar David Sacks called reaction “concerning.” Artificial Analysis ranked K3 ahead of Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 on some frontier benchmarks — first Chinese open-weight model to hit that mark.
Corporate structure: Moonshot is dismantling its offshore VIE structure, a prerequisite for a smoother Hong Kong listing under CSRC’s revised rules. TNW previously reported the company abandoned the VIE waiver path after Beijing would not grant an exemption. CICC and Goldman Sachs are in talks to work on the offering. Co-founded by Yang Zhilin (former Tsinghua professor; Meta and Google background).
Commercial: IPO would be one of the largest Chinese AI listings on record. K3 priced at roughly Anthropic Sonnet levels (premium vs other Chinese models). Sells tiered chatbot subscriptions and enterprise API; recently launched Kimi Work (general-purpose AI agent). Revenue still smaller than Z.AI (~$1B annual sales track). DeepSeek planning IPO in 2027. Race to set public-market valuation benchmark for Chinese AI.
Related CoinDesk (July 20): shareholder resolution for Hong Kong listing within six months; funding round may lift valuation above 20B Meituan-led round in May; K3 demand paused new subscriptions; ARR ~$300M.
