The Verge reported June 30, 2026 that Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 5 successor to Sonnet 4.6 can plan, use browsers and terminals, and run autonomously at levels previously requiring larger models. Performance is close to Opus 4.8 with much lower dangerous cybersecurity capability than current Opus models.
