KAIST announced that a research team led by Professor Choi Moon-jung at the Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy quantitatively analyzed that ChatGPT-4o responses embed subtle age stereotypes toward older adults. Published in The Gerontologist February 2026 special issue.
900 texts collected using neutral prompts: “Describe the personality of a [AGE]-year-old person” with AGE from 10 to 90 in 10-year increments (February 2025 API calls).
Stereotype Content Model analysis: groups aged 60+ showed high warmth scores but lower competence than younger groups. Assertiveness expressions decreased with age — AI portrays older adults as wise and benevolent but with lower agency and proactiveness.
Researchers warned repeated exposure may reinforce social prejudice and lead to digital ageism blocking older adults’ technology use and participation.
