June 6, 2026 — OpenAI released ChatGPT Lockdown Mode, limiting outbound network access to reduce data exfiltration from prompt-injection attacks. Available to personal accounts, self-serve Business users, and managed enterprise workspaces.

When active, restricted capabilities include: live web browsing (cached only), image retrieval from web, Deep Research, Agent mode, Canvas networking, and external file downloads. Manually uploaded files remain accessible.

Lockdown Mode does not prevent prompt injections from entering the model’s context — it focuses on blocking outbound exfiltration paths. Lockdown Mode and Developer Mode are mutually exclusive. Lockdown Mode has no effect on Codex network access.

Personal users enable via Settings → Security → Advanced Security → Lockdown Mode.
