OpenAI announced June 4, 2026 that Lockdown Mode is now rolling out to all personal ChatGPT accounts, including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, and self-serve ChatGPT Business accounts. Users can enable the feature from ChatGPT Settings > Security when available.
Lockdown Mode was first announced in February 2026 for highly security-conscious users including executives and security teams. The optional setting limits features connecting ChatGPT to the web or external services to reduce prompt-injection-based data exfiltration risks.
When enabled, Lockdown Mode restricts live web browsing, Deep Research, Agent Mode, Canvas networking, live connectors, and file downloads. OpenAI also standardized “Elevated Risk” labels across ChatGPT, Atlas, and Codex.
