VoidZero is joining Cloudflare

VoidZero, the company behind Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+, is joining Cloudflare. As part of this change, all team members of VoidZero are joining Cloudflare, too.

Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+ will stay open source, vendor-agnostic, and community-driven. Nothing about that changes.

Commitments

• Vite remains MIT-licensed and open source.
• Vite remains vendor-agnostic. Applications built with Vite run anywhere.
• Vite’s roadmap continues to be driven by the broader Vite team and community, developed in the open.
• Evan You and the VoidZero team continue to lead Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+.
• Cloudflare is committing engineering and resources to those projects, not redirecting them.
• Cloudflare commits $1 million to a Vite ecosystem fund administered by the Vite core team.

VoidZero’s team joins Cloudflare’s Emerging Technology and Incubation (ETI) organization. The official press release (June 4, 2026) states the acquisition unifies VoidZero’s high-performance tooling natively into the Cloudflare ecosystem, creating a frictionless deployment stack from local code to Cloudflare’s global network.

Vite ecosystem scale

Vite is at roughly 129M weekly npm downloads. The Cloudflare Vite plugin (@cloudflare/vite-plugin) is at almost 14M weekly downloads — more than 10% of Vite’s own download volume.

Vite underpins Vue, SvelteKit, Nuxt, Astro, Solid, Qwik, Angular, React Router, TanStack Start, and even a Vite-based Next.js implementation (vinext).

AI and agent-driven development

Developers are no longer the only users of dev servers, bundlers, linters, and CLIs — agents use them too. AI-generated applications increasingly start as Vite apps because Vite is fast, well understood, and broadly compatible with training data.

VoidZero’s toolchain (Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, Oxlint, Oxfmt, Vite+) is optimized for tight agent iteration loops: fast builds, fast tests, fast linting, structured errors, consistent CLIs.

Cloudflare is dogfooding: the Cloudflare dashboard is built on Vite; Oxlint saves days of engineering time internally; Flue (Astro team’s agent harness) is moving onto Vite.

Strategic direction

Cloudflare is moving its application tooling onto Vite rather than making Vite Cloudflare-specific:

• cf dev should be a superset of vite dev
• cf build should understand Vite projects natively
• cf deploy should make deploying a Vite app to Cloudflare simple

Longer term, Vite will get provider-agnostic primitives for full-stack apps and agents; Cloudflare intends to open-source the Void deployment platform.

Changes to Vite itself continue through the normal open contribution process — no Cloudflare-specific features in core Vite.
