In April 2026, Microsoft rolled out several significant enhancements to Copilot across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, focusing on deeper integration, advanced file handling, and more powerful AI models.
Core Intelligence & Chat Updates
- GPT-5.4 & GPT-5.3 Integration: Microsoft 365 Copilot now leverages GPT-5.4 Thinking for intricate, multi-step tasks and GPT-5.3 Instant for rapid, everyday responses.
- Session Persistence: Copilot Chat now maintains conversations even after navigation, creating a session entry in the navigation pane once a prompt is submitted.
- Enhanced Image & PDF Search: Copilot can now more effectively search and extract information from scanned PDFs and text within images (e.g., whiteboard photos, screenshots) embedded in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
- Researcher Output Formats: The Researcher tool can now autonomously convert its reports into various formats, including PowerPoint decks, PDFs, infographics, or an audio overview, with a single click.
App-Specific Enhancements
- Excel (Local File Support): Copilot can now execute multi-step edits on Excel workbooks stored locally on both Windows and Mac, removing the prior requirement for cloud storage.
- PowerPoint Formatting: A new “Edit with Copilot” feature allows users to standardize fonts, sizes, and bullet styles across an entire presentation concurrently.
