Investment Details
Amazon announced a substantial financial commitment to Anthropic comprising two components: an immediate 20 billion contingent on meeting specific milestones, totaling up to $25 billion.
This represents the third major funding round from Amazon. The company previously invested 4 billion in 2024.
The initial 380 billion. The remaining $20 billion is tied to “certain commercial milestones.”
Anthropic’s Commitments
In exchange, Anthropic has pledged to utilize Amazon’s custom Trainium silicon for its AI models and to spend more than $100 billion on AWS technologies over the next decade. The partnership guarantees Anthropic access to up to 5 gigawatts of current and future chip capacity for training and deploying its models.
Specifically, Anthropic will secure:
- Nearly 1GW total of Trainium2 and Trainium3 capacity coming online by end of 2026
- New Trainium2 capacity coming online in H1 2026
- Up to 5 GW total compute capacity for training and inference
Integration Benefits
The deal streamlines access for AWS customers: “Anthropic’s Claude platform” will be available directly through the AWS portal, eliminating the need for separate authentication credentials.
Context
Anthropic’s run-rate revenue has surpassed 9 billion at the end of 2025. Enterprise and developer demand for Claude, as well as a “sharp rise” in consumer usage, has led to “inevitable strain” on its infrastructure that has impacted reliability and performance.
As of March 2026, Anthropic leads model rankings, closely trailed by xAI, Google, and OpenAI.
The deepening partnership demonstrates both companies’ commitment to advancing AI infrastructure and accessibility within Amazon’s cloud ecosystem. Amazon mirrors a similar structure to its OpenAI cloud deal, signaling strategic competitive positioning in the AI infrastructure space.
